In the early 1960's Coimbatore thrived in the wake of enterprising individuals. On such individual was Mr.Dhamodaraswamy Naidu who started out in 1957 along with his brother's Shri K.Rangaswamy Naidu, Shri.K.Ramaswamy Naidu and Shri K.Lakshmanan Naidu by establishing catering units in theatre complexes. In 1968 comes the unique brand that has enlarged in magnificence today “Sree Annapoorna” a restaurant that supplies food. “Sree Gowrishankar” was the second vegetarian unit that was started soon; both became popular for its delectable dishes and its best quality. in 1974 two more restaurants were opened and more branches came into existence in 1984-1985.Dr.Dhamodaraswamy naidu was given the doctorate in Avinashilingam deemed university on 28.10.1999 and now at the moment he is been elected as the President of Tamil Nadu Hotel Association on 14.08.2004.
Above anything else, the crowning glory of Annapoorna is the name and fame it has earned for its coffee. Annapoorna coffee enjoys the rare distinction of 50000 cups of consumption per day, (The highest in Asia for a restaurant).
